The Value of Multiplication

In just two weeks, volunteers partnering with the Whatcom Long Term Recovery Group worked 1,000 hours.  It was AMAZING!

A group of retired men from Westside Church in Yakima worked with us from March 20 – 24th.  They worked 4 days at 8 hours per day and 1 day at 3 hours, for a total of 35 hours, multiplied by 10 Team Members, for a total of 350 hours.

We also had a group from the Bridges International student ministry at the University of Washington join us the same week.  They worked 2 days at 6 hours per day, for a total of 12 hours, multiplied by 25 Team Members, for a total of 300 hours.

The following week, a Student Volunteer Team from George Fox University in Oregon drove up to Whatcom County to volunteer for their whole Spring Break.  They worked 5 days at 7 hours per day, for a total of 35 hours, multiplied by 10 Team Members, for a total of 350 hours.

As individuals, we often think that we “can’t do much” if we can “only” volunteer for a few days, or a week. However, the big picture shows us that our hours can be multiplied exponentially when we all give what we can give.  The U.W. Team “only” gave us two days; but a LOT was accomplished due to the size of their team.  The George Fox Team was smaller, but they were able to stay for a week.  Each and every volunteer … on each and every team … is critical in meeting the needs of the Disaster Recovery of Whatcom County.
