Whatcom Long Term Recovery Group Provides Update on Flood

Recovery Intake, Volunteer Opportunities, and Cleanup Efforts

Everson, WA – December 13, 2025 – The Whatcom Long Term Recovery Group (WLTRG), in coordination with local partners, today announced updated locations and schedules for resident intake services, volunteer registration, and dispatch as recovery efforts continue following recent flooding in Whatcom County.

Intake services for flood affected residents, as well as volunteer check-in and dispatch, will be available at the following locations:

Sunday, December 14

  • Station 81 Fire Hall (101 E Main St, Everson, WA): 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 

  • Sumas Advent Christian Church (125 Front St, Sumas, WA): 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Monday and Tuesday

  • Station 81 Fire Hall (101 E Main St, Everson, WA: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 

  • Sumas Advent Christian Church (125 Front St, Sumas, WA): 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer teams in the coming days will prioritize the removal of flood-damaged insulation, flooring, and drywall from affected homes. Volunteers are encouraged to arrive one hour after the daily start time for check-in and assignment to households in need.

Cleanup and Debris Disposal

Flood debris, including insulation, drywall, flooring, and damaged household items, may be disposed of at no cost at designated county drop-off sites. Residents are reminded to contact their insurance providers first to report damage and follow guidance on documenting losses before beginning cleanup.

Weather and Safety Advisory

Significant rainfall is forecast for Monday, with cooler temperatures expected throughout the week. Homes where insulation has been removed should take immediate steps to protect pipes from freezing to prevent further damage.

Donations Needed

The recovery group is currently in urgent need of cleaning supplies to support cleanup efforts: 

  • Bleach 

  • Cleaning buckets 

  • Brooms 

  • Squeegees 

  • Scrub brushes 

  • Rubber gloves 

  • Gift cards for purchasing these items

Donations can be dropped off at the Sumas Advent Christian Church (125 Front St, Sumas, WA). 

At this stage of the cleaning phase, the public is kindly asked to hold off on donations of other items. Financial contributions to support immediate flood recovery are welcomed and can be made securely online at:
